Sunny,
bright and newly decorated, there are two main rooms, both opening
through French doors to a balcony with plants, a bistro table
and chairs; plus a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom with tub and
shower, and separate toilet. The bedroom has a new, very comfortable
queen size bed. The living room has a new modern sofa that converts
to a comfortable, extra-long double bed, as well as a dining table
and chairs. All rooms open separately to the entry hall; the two
main rooms can be separated, or the French doors and curtains
between them can be opened to create one large space.
On
the 6th (French) floor with elevator, there are windows with a
view in every room including a view of rooftops and gorgeous sunrises
from the kitchen. From the balcony one can see the Promenade Plantée,
the clock of Gare de Lyon, sunsets, and tree-lined streets.
The
Area Around Bastille
It is less than
a block to the Promenade Plantée, a three-mile long park with
walking path and plantings on top of Viaduc des Arts, a former
railroad viaduct. Under it are artisans' studios. The Bastille
Opera and Place de la Bastille are less than a ten-minute walk
away. The famous Marché de Aligre, the oldest food market in Paris
is three blocks away, one of four nearby open-air markets.
The neighborhood
is full of cafés and shops. Rue Faubourg Saint Antoine has restaurants,
films, and upscale shopping. Take a shortcut through Passage du
Chantier to the rue de Charonne and rue de Lappe quartier where
many small restaurants are to be found, including Chez Paul and
Pause Café, site of the film "Chacun cherche son chat" ("When
the Cat's Away"). The film presents this quartier as typically
Parisian, like the people who live there. Bakeries, patisseries,
antiques, supermarkets, banks, pharmacies abound in this virtually
tourist-free neighborhood.
All Paris sites
can be reached quickly and conveniently by nearby Metros. Metro
line 1 goes directly to the Louvre, Notre Dame, the Champs Elysées,
the Grand Palais. The Marais, in the 4th arrondissement, and the
Jardin des Plantes, in the 5th arrondisement, can be reached easily
on foot. There is also a bicycle path outside the door of the
building, which makes it easy to take advantage of the new Paris
bike-sharing program.

Thanks
for a lovely time in Paris, we thoroughly enjoyed the apartment.
It was perfect! Thank goodness for the international phone in
the apartment and the problem I had with the credit card was handled
quickly. We found the daily market around the corner at L'Aligre
courtesy of Fred downstairs in the sandwich shop below...he's
very helpful and loved practicing his English and had obviously
met other visitors from the 6th floor. We also went to the open-air
market on Sunday morning near Place de la Bastille and that was
well worth the visit and discovered the nearby gelato store and
it was wonderful, sculpting our cones into a beautiful flower!
We loved Paris, especially St. Chapelle and the Montmarte area
and enjoyed really nice weather, only sprinkled on once or twice
for a brief shower. Everyone we met in Paris was helpful and more
than kind....the apartment made for a "dream vacation"
where we could have morning coffee/tea and breakfast before heading
out each day to discover Paris. The kitchen was fully stocked
and bright and cheerful with a nice rooftop view. It was so enjoyable
sitting around the table while writing in our journals nightly
and checking our email, listening to nice music from the selection
in the apartment. We found the postcards of the balcony in the
basket near the phone and were thrilled to send them to our families.
We took a picture from the street below with us on the balcony,
hopefully it turned out well. I'd recommend the apartment to everyone,
definitely! I hope to return to Paris with my husband, we'd love
to be there for Le Tour....someday. Again, the apartment was fantastic,
it was so welcoming, we truly felt "at home" in Paris.
Merci!
Debbie
